Electricity Load Index Jumps 500 Megawatts In Two Days

The electric loads index is racing against time, day after day, by recording significant increases in electrical consumption loads and rapid jumps between day and the next. Yesterday, Wednesday, it recorded a new record of 14,506 megawatts, while yesterday, Tuesday, 14,250 megawatts, an increase of 250 megawatts within one day, and an increase of 500 megawatts compared to last Monday, when the loads during peak hours did not exceed 14,000 megawatts, knowing that the current increase is record compared to periods of high weather temperatures during the past years.

While the Minister of Electricity and Water, Dr. Mishaan Al-Otaibi said in a previous statement that the expected maximum load this summer is 16,000 megawatts, and that the Ministry of Electricity is always ready for the worst eventualities, calling for rationalization of consumption. The sources of electricity announced to Al-Jarida that the ministry has sufficient production capacity to feed Kuwait with energy, reaching 18,000 megawatts, while the installed capacity of production exceeded 20 thousand megawatts, according to the latest statistics of the ministry.

On the other hand, electrical sources said that the increase in loads, even if it remains below the ceiling of the production capacity of the current, greatly affects the capacity of some main and secondary stations and leads to regional faults, noting that “Electricity” deals with 50 thousand transformers in the various governorates of Kuwait, The rate of consumption in these transformers reaches its maximum during peak periods, which warns of interruptions in the current.
